Gaston Bussière Bussière studied at the Academy of fine arts of Lyon before entering the workshop of Pierre Puvis de Chavannes and Alexandre Cabanel at the école des beaux-arts in Paris. In 1884, he wins Marie Bashkirtseff and exhibited at the Salon in 1885. Close to Gustave Moreau, it is a source of inspiration in Berlioz (La Damnation de Faust) but also Shakespeare and Wagner. He produced illustrations for splendours and miseries of courtesans of Honoré de Balzac published in 1897, enamels and cameos, of Théophile Gautier, as well as Salome of Oscar Wilde. He also illustrated works of Flaubert. A close time of Joséphin Péladan, founder of the order of the Temple of the Lectorium, Bussière exhibited his works at the Salon of the Lectorium between 1893 and 1895.
