Bolesław Szańkowski (1873 - 1953)

Szańkowski – well-known Polish portrait-painter. Studied at Fine Arts School in Cracow, at Munich Academy under Johann C. Herterich (1894) and at Académie Colarrosi and Académie Julian in Paris (1896-1898).

He lived in Munich permanently; travelled around France, Belgium, England and Scotland. Highly appraised portrait painter, painted numerous portraits of high-society persons, among others Ignacy Paderewski, the Radziwiłłs, the Potockis, the imperial family in Berlin and the royal family in Romania.

He willingly painted idealized portraits of beautiful and elegant ladies or chamber, charming children portraits (eg. numerous portraits of his daughters, Ada and Helena).
